Xuelong leaves Akureyri after fruitful visit

After a successful visit in Iceland, the Xuelong is now heading towards the North Pole.

The expeditions is going to utilize the future central Arctic shipping route on its way back to China.

The Xuelong was in Reykjavík a little bit ahead of schedule but was formally greeted on August 16th. It stayed in Reykjavík for two days and then sailed to Akureyri.


The route took 24 hours to sail.


On Monday, a highly successful Arctic seminar was held in the honor of the Xuelong where Icelandic and Chinese scientist spoke.


The town of Akureyri was given a model of the Xuelong, it is two meters long and the town has some work ahead to find the right location for it!
