First Chinese Scientific investigations in Iceland
On the 12th of August the Chinese research icebreaker started its scientific investigations in the North Atlantic Ocean.
The research will cover 4 separate investigation stations and is be based on cooperation between CHINARE and Icelandic scientists in the University of Iceland.
The research investigations are to include: comparison of climate changes in North Atlantic and China in different geological time scales and resolution, ocean environment comparison between the Arctic Pacific sector and Atlantic sector and lithological and geochemical studies of the mid ocean ridge in Icelandic water territory.
The cooperation will significantly enhance the cooperation between Chinese and Icelandic scientists on polar and marine sciences.
The Snow Dragon will anchorage in the port of Reykjavik 17th of August, than sail to Akureyri in the North part of Iceland. In both locations, the research ice breaker will be open for external visitors to acknowledge the most important features with regards to Icelandic – Chinese Arctic co operation strategies.
