Xuelong arrives in Qingdao
The Xuelong started its journey from China to Iceland late in June. It left its home in Shanghai, where the headquarters of the Polar Research Institute of China are located, to nearby city of Qingdao, a coastal city of east China's Shandong Province. Arctic-related research is conducted at the Ocean University of China in Qingdao, Dalian Maritime.
The crew assembled in Shanghai and set sail on the 27th of June, arriving in Qingdao two days later. The icebreaker was open for the public for two days, on 30th of June and the 1st of July.
It will sail through the East China Sea, between South Korea and Japan, through the Sea of Okhotsk and to the Bering Sea. It will go through the Bering Strait to the Chukchi Sea and through the Northern Sea route to before arriving in Iceland in the middle of August.
